Nut allergies?

has anyone had any luck with allergy illimination? i've heard a little about this, with a couple of people saying it's been successful; but the allergist specialist warned me not to mess with unqualified people with such a serious matter. i agree it is serious (it's my two children who have the allergies), but i also really would like to find a solution - although, i kind of know i'm just dreaming!
