Getting a teaching job question?

It sounds like your pion is History, so don't go into special education. I am a special ed teacher and I can tell you unless you have a pion for working with these kids you will not be happy in what you do. I have to work with teachers who went into special ed for the job security or the extra pay ( a whopping 5%!) and they are not happy and just make things worse for the students. These kids need someone with the knowledge and the PATIENCE to deal with all their issues. Special Education encompes a huge range of disabilities and problems. It's easy to burn out because these kids can be so demanding. I personally love my job and wouldn't think of doing anything else, but I do come home exhausted physically and emotionally. I also spend a huge amount of time trying to stay current with the new research and best practices for teaching these special kids. If history is what you enjoy, get your degree and relocate to where the jobs are. You'll be much happier in the long run.
